Research Profile

My research is focused on language documentation, description, revitalization and socio-historical linguistics of the minority/ lesser-known/ endangered languages of Northeast India. My Ph.D thesis A Dialectal Study of Maring (a Tibeto-Burman language spoken in southeast Manipur) compared the languages/ dialects of five villages based on proto-Tibeto-Burman and proto-Kuki-chin to understand the history of language contact, change and variation.

Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Linda Konnerth. I will be doing a bottom-up grammatical comparison of the language relationships in the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur. The project will investigate the phylogenetic relationship between Maringic and South-Central groups of Sino-Tibetan/ Trans Himalayan languages, and will be crucial for understanding linguistic diversity and prehistory of the region.
